From Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade to rapper Kendrick Lamar to our friends at Street Etiquette, men everywhere are sporting the crucial evolution in trousers known as jogger pants. And it’s easy to understand why.
Besides being abnormally comfortable (many have elastic at the waist as well as the cuffs), they cut a lean, tapered silhouette that shows off your favorite shoes, without pesky concerns about rolling or hemming your pant leg.
Keep reading to see three ways to wear them: on the weekend, at the office and for a date.
1. How to Wear Jogger Pants—On the Weekend. Perhaps their most natural application, joggers are right at home on a low-key Saturday rocking an athletic jersey, in search of fresh air and rare records. Black and white is always a good option. Can’t mess it up.
2. How to Wear Jogger Pants—At Work. Strike a smart balance of highs and lows. Here, the low of the sweatshirt is balanced by the high of the dress shirt, and the relative low of the jogger with the high of the blazer
3. How to Wear Jogger Pants—For a Date. For an early-ish date that you really hope goes well, dress up your twill joggers but keep the look relaxed: chunky cardigan and a thin, loose sweater ought to do it. This is effectively the same idea as a preppy navy blazer and chinos–a look that says “I care about my future, please consider working with me”–but modern and with a slight swagger.
Eddie Bauer blogs: Do you think when wearing jogger pants, one should stick with high-top shoes? Or do you like low-tops with joggers?
I think you can wear either, for sure. We chose these shoes based on the outfits, and what was best for the outfits. But the date guy, here, could easily wear a loafer, no socks. Or a Stan Smith. Almost anything works as long as it goes with the rest of the colors you’re wearing. The main thing I would say with jogger pants is to keep your footwear casualized. Whether it’s a boot, chukka or shoe.
